Lahore weather update: city braces for extreme heat as mercury hits 40°c

The temperature in Lahore has started rising once again, with the sun showing no signs of relenting. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 25°C, and the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 40°C on Wednesday.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in southern regions is expected to be 6 to 8 degrees higher than usual until April 18. In Lahore, the mercury is likely to touch 40°C, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to issue a heatwave alert.

Weather forecasters have predicted that the intense heat will persist for the next four days. However, a western weather system is expected to arrive on April 18, which will halt the rise in temperatures. Despite this, the severity of the heat is likely to remain.

PDMA issues heatwave and rainfall alert

,The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday issued a nationwide alert for a heatwave and expected rainfall in many cities from April 16 to April 20.Director General (DG) PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has stated, “Dusty winds, thundershowers and rains are likely in most districts of Punjab from April 16 to April 20.”

According to DG PDMA, “Rain with strong winds is predicted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala.”

Apart from these cities, it is also expected that Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha and Mianwali might also witness rainfall in the coming days from April 16 to April 20.
