The ban has been placed on One Plus Two and One Plus Four motor-cab rickshaws in Karachi for a period of two months.
This action has been taken under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) on the recommendation of the DIG Traffic, and the ban will remain in place from April 15 to June 14.
Violators will face action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Rickshaws will be banned on important roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, and Shaheed Millat Road. A complete ban will be enforced on the operation of One Plus Two and One Plus Four motor-cabs on Shahrah-e-Faisal and I.I. Chundrigar Road.
Rickshaws operating on unauthorized and self-designated routes were causing traffic congestion. A ban has also been imposed on One Plus Four rickshaws near Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine, Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Stadium Road, and other areas.
In this regard, the Commissioner of Karachi has informed that the traffic police have been authorized to register complaints and take action. All SHOs (Station House Officers) have been directed to ensure strict action against violations of the ban.
The Commissioner of Karachi mentioned that this decision has been made to improve traffic flow and prevent accidents. The Commissioner has also instructed rickshaw drivers in Karachi to use alternative routes.
