As Eid approaches, bus stations in Islamabad are packed with people heading home to celebrate with their families.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon made a surprise visit to Faizabad to check if passengers were being charged fair prices.
Accompanied by the Secretary of the Islamabad Transport Authority, the DC interacted with travellers, inspected fare lists, and verified tickets. He boarded multiple vehicles to ensure compliance with official fare rates.
“We had set up teams on Thursday, and people started leaving from Friday,” said Irfan Memon. He assured that magistrates and transport authority teams are stationed at all major bus terminals to monitor the situation.
Authorities have already taken action against violations ahead of Eid. “So far, four buses have been shut down for overcharging,” the DC confirmed. He emphasised that any complaints received through the helpline are being addressed immediately.
Passengers have been urged to report any instances of overcharging or misconduct by transporters. “If any bus operator is charging extra, inform us immediately,” the DC appealed.
Every year, thousands of people travel from major cities to their hometowns for Eid, often facing high fares and overcrowding. This year, authorities have promised strict action to ensure a smooth and fair travel experience.
