WEBDESK: Weather Update: After several days of sweltering temperatures, some parts of Karachi could finally see relief today, on Monday, as rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms are expected, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office shared that the city’s weather is likely to stay humid and partly cloudy over the next 24 hours.
Winds from the northwest are currently blowing at a gentle speed of 3km/h, while humidity stands at 73 per cent.
Despite the possibility of showers, temperatures are expected to remain high, with the mercury likely to touch 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.
In the last 24 hours, the lowest temperature recorded was 30°C.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a pre-monsoon weather system began affecting the eastern parts of Sindh on Saturday evening.
This system may bring scattered showers, gusty winds, and thunderstorms to parts of Tharparkar and Umer Kot.
The PMD had earlier warned that a pre-monsoon system was expected to impact eastern Sindh from Saturday evening.
Officials had also noted the presence of a westerly wave over upper and central regions of the country, which was predicted to continue through Sunday and Monday.
The Met Office had earlier shared that moist air currents are entering the upper regions of the country, and a westerly weather wave was expected to arrive on 13th June.
As a result, changing weather patterns are expected in several regions.
Due to this weather pattern, some areas such as upper and southeast Sindh, northeast and south Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad
Kashmir were expected to receive scattered dust storms, thundershowers, or rain.
Rainfall, along with dust storms and possible hail, has been forecast in areas including Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between the 13th and 16th of June.
Meanwhile, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and central and upper Punjab, including Lahore, may also receive rain during this period.
In Balochistan, districts like Zhob, Barkhan, and Musakhel are expected to be affected as well. Southern Punjab is likely to see dust storms and thunder-rain across all districts within the same timeframe.
Earlier forecasts had pointed to mainly hot and dry conditions across most of the country, especially in the plains where it remained very hot.
