Bank holiday: SBP annouces holiday on May 28

Bank holiday will be observed in Pakistanon May 28, Wednesday as the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced public holiday in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer.

“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 28, 2025 (Wednesday) being public holiday on the occasion of “Youm-e-Takbeer”, as declared by the Government of Pakistan”, read the notification issued by SBP.

When the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announces a public holiday, all private sector banks remain closed on that day. If you plan to carry out any financial activity, keep in mind that you will not be able to do so on May 28 due to the holiday.

The federal government has already announced public holiday on Youm-e-Takbeer.

A public holiday was announced by the Sindh government on Monday to mark the historic occasion.

The provincial government issued a notification regarding the closure of government and private institutions.

PSX holiday May 28

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) also announced that it will remain closed on May 28.

“All concerned are hereby informed that Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, being a public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer,” the notice read.

May 28 is officially recognised as a gazetted holiday nationwide to celebrate the 1998 achievement that saw Pakistan emerged as the first Muslim-majority country to acquire nuclear capabilities, marking a pivotal moment in its history.
