WEBDESK: Today marks the 46th death anniversary of former Prime Minister and founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Commemorative events are being held across the country to honor his legacy.
The PPP has organised ceremonies at district headquarters, while the main event is taking place at Bhutto’s mausoleum in Gharhi Khuda Bux, near Naudero in Larkana. Special prayers, including Quran Khawani and Fateha Khawani, are also being held across the country for his soul.
The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on April 4, 2025, to commemorate the 46th death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Pakistan’s first directly elected Prime Minister, was executed on April 4, 1979, during the military rule of General Zia-ul-Haq. He was sentenced to death in a controversial trial related to the murder of a political opponent, Nawab Mohammad Ahmad Qasuri.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message today, praised Bhutto as a brave leader and a true representative of the people. He highlighted Bhutto’s role in shaping Pakistan’s democratic and foreign policy framework, including the introduction of the country’s first unanimous Constitution and laying the foundation for its nuclear program.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also paid tribute, calling his grandfather a leader who empowered workers and farmers, promoted education, and gave Pakistan a strong global voice. He said Bhutto united a divided nation and ensured the protection of fundamental rights.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remains a significant figure in Pakistan’s history, remembered for his leadership, vision, and efforts toward making Pakistan a stronger, more inclusive nation.
