April 4: School, Colleges, offices to remain close in Sindh on Bhutto's death anniversary

KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on April 4, 2025, to commemorate the 46th death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former Prime Minister of Pakistan.

According to the notification ‘this decision applies to all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous institutions, corporations, and local councils operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government.’

This holiday apply across Sindh including the major cities of Hyderabad, Karachi, Khairpur, Jaccobabad and Larkana. However, essential services will remain functional as usual.

On this significant day, PPP will host a memorial gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, where many party workers and supporters from across the country are expected to gather to pay their respects.

Bhutto was executed on April 4, 1979, at Rawalpindi’s Central Jail after a death sentence for murder charges, which was upheld by General Zia-ul-Haq. He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh in Sindh.

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remains an influential figure in Pakistan’s political history. His leadership from 1973 to 1977 significantly impacted the country’s political and economic development.

Bhutto was posthumously awarded Pakistan’s highest national honor, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, which was presented to his daughter, Sanam Bhutto, by then-President Asif Ali Zardari.
