WEBDESK: Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has called for the resignation of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi due to the national team’s poor performances.
Expressing his thoughts on his YouTube channel, Akmal said: “Pakistan have missed a golden chance of winning the ODI series in New Zealand after 2011.”
According to Kamran Akmal, Pakistan had a great chance to break their 13-year drought of winning an ODI series in New Zealand, but they failed to deliver. He criticized the team’s lack of adaptability and pointed out the poor bowling performances of Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Haris Rauf. He also mentioned fast bowler Akif Javed, stating that despite his domestic experience, he still struggles with his technique.
While critiquing the overall performance, Kamran Akmal did acknowledge all-rounder Faheem Ashraf’s efforts, crediting him for preventing an even bigger loss for Pakistan. He also questioned the batting lineup’s approach, stating that players appeared unserious, even smiling after getting out.
“None of the players were serious despite Pakistan’s shortcomings with the exception of the head coach,” he said.
Akmal said, “The players were flashing smiles when getting out,” said the former wicketkeeper.”
“Our batters get exposed to the tough conditions,” maintained Akmal.
This is not the first time Kamran Akmal has spoken out about Pakistan cricket’s declining standards. His comments add to growing pressure on Mohsin Naqvi, as several senators have also demanded his resignation. Critics believe that under Naqvi’s leadership, Pakistan cricket has failed to improve, and drastic changes are necessary.
Kamran Akmal urged the PCB chairman to step down if he cannot bring positive changes, emphasizing that leadership should take responsibility for the team’s ongoing failures. With increasing criticism from former players and officials, the PCB might soon face major restructuring.
