Weather forecast: Rainfall expected today in parts of Punjab, KP, Kashmir

WEBDESK: The latest weather forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall and thunderstorms in several regions today, including parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

However according to the weather forecast, strong winds or dust storms are expected in Islamabad, northern Punjab, upper KP, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the evening. Some areas might even experience heavy rainfall or hail.

Despite these scattered weather events, the plains across the country are likely to stay extremely hot. The weather prediction warns that people living in lowland areas should take precautions against heat-related illnesses and stay hydrated.

In the past 24 hours, the hottest temperatures were recorded in Jacobabad, Turbat, and Sibi, where the mercury soared to 47 degrees Celsius. These cities continue to rank among the hottest in the country.

Other recorded temperatures included:

  • 45°C in Bhakkar, Lasbela, Hyderabad, and Nawabshah
  • 42°C in Lahore, Multan, Jhelum, and Dera Ismail Khan
  • 39°C in Peshawar and Muzaffarabad
  • 38°C in Islamabad
  • 37°C in Karachi
  • 34°C in Quetta
  • 33°C in Gilgit

This weather forecast also suggests that the current heatwave in southern and central Pakistan may continue for the next few days, especially in Sindh, South Punjab, and parts of Balochistan.

People are advised to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, wear light clothing, and drink plenty of fluids. Farmers and construction workers in open areas should also follow safety guidelines.

While the northern parts of the country may get some relief due to showers, the rest of Pakistan remains under the grip of intense heat. Authorities are monitoring the situation and may issue further weather forecast as conditions change.
