LAHORE: A powerful Lahore dust storm swept across the cityon Saturday, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and dark clouds that quickly changed the weather. The sudden storm disrupted normal life and caused major problems for residents.

As the Lahore dust storm approached, the sky turned grey and thick clouds covered the city. The strong winds kicked up dust, reducing visibility and making it difficult for people to travel. Soon after, heavy rain followed, flooding streets and causing long traffic jams.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had already issued a warning about changing weather due to a western disturbance. The Lahore dust storm was part of this larger weather system affecting upper parts of the country, including Rawalpindi, Murree, and Peshawar. More rain and storms are expected in the next 24 hours.

Additionally a powerful  hailstorm hit the twin cities on Saturday, leaving a trail of damage in its wake. The storm brought heavy rainfall, strong winds, and large hailstones, disrupting daily life and raising safety concerns for residents.

Lahore dust storm caused power outages

The Lahore dust storm caused damage to the city’s power infrastructure. Over 150 power feeders reportedly tripped, leading to electricity outages across several areas. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) teams are working to restore power, but some neighborhoods may face longer delays due to ongoing repairs.

Electricity was also cut off in areas including Wahdat Colony, Samanabad, Baba Azam Chowk, Ichhra, Zaildar Road, and Millat Road.

In addition to daily life being affected, the Lahore dust storm also disrupted sports events. Peshawar Zalmi’s practice session at LCCA Ground had to be stopped as strong winds tore apart training equipment. Later, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators at Gaddafi Stadium was paused due to unsafe conditions.
