Apple is said to be working on a larger foldable device, potentially around 19 inches in size, which could debut as early as late next year—possibly alongside its much-rumoured foldable iPhone.

According to analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities, both an 18.8-inch and a 7.8-inch foldable device are in the pipeline, with progress moving steadily through development. In a recent research note, Pu stated that both models are expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026.

This aligns with Pu’s earlier claims that Apple’s first two foldable products had entered the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase at Foxconn. Depending on how quickly production scales, the devices could be released in late 2026 or pushed to sometime in 2027.

However, there is still uncertainty around the launch timeline and the nature of the larger device itself. While Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported on a foldable iPad with a 20-inch display expected in 2028, analyst Ross Young anticipates a foldable tablet-style product arriving in either 2026 or 2027.

As for the form factor, views differ among industry watchers. Pu believes Apple is developing a MacBook-iPad hybrid featuring a full touch screen and running macOS. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also suggested it will be a foldable MacBook, while Ross Young has mentioned a similar notebook-style concept with an 18.8-inch foldable display. The Wall Street Journal, too, reported last December that Apple is working on a 19-inch foldable MacBook.

On the other hand, both Gurman and research firm Omdia have described the device as a foldable iPad. The distinction may ultimately depend on which operating system Apple chooses to install—macOS would place it under the Mac umbrella, while iPadOS would align it with the iPad lineup.

Gurman has previously indicated that Apple’s updates to iOS 19 and macOS 16 are intended to unify the platforms and better accommodate future devices like touchscreen Macs and foldables, opening the door to hybrid products.

For now, details about the larger foldable remain uncertain. In contrast, speculation around Apple’s smaller, book-style foldable iPhone has become more consistent, with analysts widely pointing to a potential 2026 launch.
