Vivo is reportedly preparing to launch the X300 Ultra with a major leap in mobile photography, incorporating camera technology previously exclusive to Sony’s Xperia flagship smartphones, according to a well-known industry tipster.
In a recent post on Chinese social media platform Weibo, reliable leaker Digital Chat Station claimed that the upcoming Vivo X300 series will consist of four models: the X300, X300 Pro, X300 Pro Mini, and X300 Ultra. Among these, the Ultra variant is expected to lead the charge in camera innovation.
The X300 Ultra will reportedly include three large camera sensors, including one with a 200-megapixel resolution. However, the standout feature is said to be a new custom Sony sensor that enables continuous optical zoom, a technology that allows a true range of zoom levels using physically moving lenses, rather than switching between fixed focal lengths.
This continuous zoom feature has so far only appeared on Sony’s high-end Xperia 1 smartphones, such as the Xperia 1 VII, which offers a seamless zoom range from 85mm to 170mm (roughly 3.5x to 7.1x). If the X300 Ultra adopts this same hardware, it would mark the first time a non-Sony phone features the technology, suggesting a collaboration or supply deal between Vivo and Sony.
While the Vivo X200 Ultra only recently launched globally, the X300 Ultra appears to be in active development. There is no confirmed release timeline yet and the details remain unofficial.
