LAHORE (Azaad English): According to the weather forecast by Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) strong winds and rain likelt to hit at different areas of of Punjab from Wednesday to Friday by the on account of the onset of westerly winds in the upper reaches of the country.
The department official said that the rain and snowfall will lash Murree, Galiyat, and hilly areas and showers are anticipated in the major part of the districts in Punjab. Officials have been alerted with a priority of particular interest, particularly those along the routes more susceptible to landslide and urban flood.
The high winds can affect daily life, and individuals are recommended to make necessary precautions. But rain will improve air quality in big cities and bring relief from prolonged dryness.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had said a westerly wave will be penetrating Baluchistan on Tuesday evening and would gradually move into western and higher areas of the country by Feb 19-20. The bulk of Punjab’s districts would remain cold and mostly cloudy during the night on Tuesday. Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding areas have the chance to receive light snow and rainfall. A few southern districts, such as Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Sadiqabad, and Rajanpur, may receive light rain or drizzle.
Wednesday to Thursday will see occasional rains and gusty winds in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala. On the other hand, regions like Multan, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, and Sahiwal can look forward to light rain and winds. Isolated hailstorms are also likely in upper and central Punjab during the evening or night.
Lahore’s minimum temperature is likely to be 12-14°C on Wednesday and 13-15°C on Thursday. Murree will still be the lowest temperature in Punjab, with a temperature of around 1°C.
In the last 24 hours, Punjab witnessed higher-than-normal daytime temperatures, although the impending rain spell will put an end to it. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted a western disturbance, developing over north Afghanistan, that will bring isolated rain and snowfall to the western Himalayan region.
Once the weather system has passed, individuals should remain updated and be precautionary, mainly where there can be heavy downpours of rain, harsh wind, or slides.
