A strong system of westerly winds is expected to hit the upper parts of Pakistan starting tonight (Friday). According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper and Central Punjab, Northeastern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. There is also a chance of heavy rain and hailstorms at a few places in these regions, which may cause temporary disruptions.
This weather system may also lead to a rise in water levels in rivers like the Kabul, Jhelum, and Indus, raising the risk of flooding in low-lying areas. Residents living near riverbanks and hilly areas are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
On Saturday, similar weather is expected to continue, especially in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper/Central Punjab, Northeastern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds may persist in these regions, with chances of hailstorms at isolated spots.
While the upper parts of the country prepare for rain and cooler weather, southern Pakistan is bracing for a heatwave. Very hot and dry conditions are likely in Southern Punjab, interior Sindh, and parts of Balochistan from Sunday onwards. Temperatures in Karachi may rise up to 39–41°C, and in interior Sindh, the heatwave could extend further from April 24.
People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during storms and take extra care during high temperatures. Stay hydrated, keep cool, and follow updates from the weather department for timely alerts. Whether it’s rain or heat, it’s important to stay prepared and stay safe.
