WEBDESK: The Punjab government has announced the schools reopening across the province starting Monday, May 12. This includes all public and private schools, colleges, and universities.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the decision in a statement on Sunday, confirming that schools, colleges, and universities will resume normal operations starting May 12.
Educational institutions were previously shut down on May 7 due to Indian drone attacks in parts of Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The sudden closure was a safety measure, and now with relative calm, the government has decided to restart academic activities. The schools reopening will also apply to colleges and universities in the affected areas.
“The safety of students and staff remains our top priority,” the minister said. “Now that the situation has stabilised, academic activities will proceed without further delay.”
Due to the closures, several intermediate exams were postponed by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) in cities like Lahore and Multan. Papers on Quran translation, ethics, and practical exams for computer science and biology were delayed. Authorities have assured students that a revised exam schedule will be announced soon.
Zahid Mian, Controller of Examinations at BISE Lahore, said new dates for the postponed papers will be announced soon. Similar statements were issued by other regional boards.
Authorities said exam rescheduling updates will be published through official channels in the coming days.
This schools reopening comes at a crucial time for many students preparing for important board exams. Officials have said that safety measures will be in place to ensure a secure learning environment.
