As the nation gets closer to Eid-ul-Azha 2025, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday inaugurated Pakistan’s largest cattle market in Lahore.

The cattle market in Lahore, developed and introduced by the Punjab government, is spread over seventy-four acres of land in the Shahpur Kanjran area of Lahore.

The Punjab government introduced the cattle market just before the Eid-ul-Azha 2025. The cattle market in Lahore has around twenty large sheds for animals, while appropriate arrangements were made for the facilitation of animals.

According to details, the model cattle market in Lahore can accommodate as many as 25,000 large animals and 150,000 small animals.

Muslims across the nation are preparing to buy sacrificial animals for Eid-ul-Azha 2025, and the cattle market in Lahore will contribute significantly to this.

In 2024, almost 7 million animals were sacrificed in during last year’s Eid-ul-Azha. The Pakistan Tanners Association reported 2.8 million cows, 3.3 million goats, 165,000 buffaloes, and 99,000 camels were sacrificed.

It merits a mention that larger animals are traditionally done with shares, which means that multiple people can partake in the sacrifice of a large animal like a cow or camel.
