LAHORE: The Punjab government has officially announced early summer vacations for all public and private schools across the province. This decision comes in response to the soaring temperatures and a heatwave alert issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

New Summer Vacation Dates Announced

Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that summer vacations in Punjab will now start from May 28, 2025, and continue until August 9, 2025. Originally, the holidays were expected to begin in early June, but the government decided to move them earlier to protect students from the severe heat.

The PDMA had issued a warning about a strong heatwave expected between May 20 and May 24. Due to the situation, the education department decided to begin the summer holidays a few weeks earlier than planned. The goal is to prevent heatstroke, loss of water and exhaustion in students.

As well as revising the vacation schedule, PDMA has explained the situation to the health, local government and emergency services to help them prepare. Until the holidays, schools are being told to prevent outdoor activities, keep the air well-ventilated and ensure adequate water supply.

Revised School Timings Until Holidays

Until the vacations officially begin, schools will follow revised timings to help students manage the harsh weather. From now up to May 28, all schools will open at 7:30 am and close at 11:30 am. The change in timings is one way to reduce risks to students during the heatwave.
