DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has warned India that any attempt to stop Pakistan’s water will be met with serious consequences.

In an exclusive interview with Arab News, he said, “I hope that time doesn’t come, but such actions will have consequences that the world will witness—and we’ll be fighting those consequences for years and decades to come. Nobody dares stop the water of Pakistan.”

“It is some madman who can think that he can stop the water of over 240 million people. Dare not, cannot”, said DG ISPR, slamming Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

It is pertinent to mention that despite the ceasefire, Modi announced this week that India would stop the water from flowing—a move Pakistan has earlier described as a direct threat to its survival and an act of war.

New Delhi unilaterally suspended a decades-old water-sharing agreement—Indus Water Treaty—with its nuclear-armed neighbor last month, blaming Pakistan for attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) without any proof.

Confirming that six Indian aircraft were shot down by Pakistan, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, “We only targeted the aircraft. We could have taken out more, but we showed restraint.”

He also warned of a high potential for renewed conflict despite the ceasefire, as long as the core issue—Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) —remains unresolved.

“Pakistan’s armed forces are professional. We honor our commitments and follow, in letter and spirit, the instructions of the political leadership and the agreements they make,” he said.

Adding that, “As far as the Pakistan Army is concerned, the ceasefire will hold. Confidence-building measures in communication between both sides have also taken place.”
