The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Monday revealed the expected dates of Eidul Fitr and first Ramadan 2025 in Pakistan.

According to SUPARCO, the probability of moon being sighted on February 28 is “extremely low”; forecasting that the first Ramadan 2025 would begin on March 2 while Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed no 31st March, 2025.

SUPARCO issued a press release today which contained its forecast for moon’s visibility based on advanced scientific and astronomical calculations.

“According to precise astronomical models, the new moon (conjunction) for Ramazan 2025 will occur on February 28, at 05:45 PST. However, the visibility of the crescent depends on key factors such as the moon’s age, its angular separation from the sun, altitude at sunset, and atmospheric conditions,” stated SUPARCO.

It further added that it is likely that crescent may be visible on February 28 in Saudi Arabia which would mean that beginning of Ramadan would likely be from March 1 in Saudi Arabia.

It should be highlighted that the press release emphasised that government’s appointed Ruet-i-Hilal Committee would officially announce the Ramadan’s start after collecting testimonies from across the country.

The holy month of Ramadan holds immense spiritual and religious significance for Muslims around the world. Muslims observe fast from sunrise till sunset every day in Ramadan representing obeyance to Allah’s commands.

Ramdan twice in the same year?

Interestingly, since Islamic calendar is based on lunar calculations; there will be two Ramadans in the year 2030 – first in January and second in December of the same year.

This is a rare occurrence which takes place after every 33 years as the last time the world experienced two Ramadan months in the same year was in 1997.
