Overseas workers’ remittances to Pakistan surpass $3 billion in February 2025

Pakistan saw a notable rise in overseas workers’ remittances in February 2025, reaching $3.1 billion, according to figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

This marks a 3.8 per cent increase from the $3 billion recorded in January 2025.

On a yearly basis, remittances surged by 38.6 per cent, compared to $2.25 billion in February last year.

For the fiscal year to date (July-February FY25), remittances totalled $24.0 billion, reflecting a 32.5 per cent jump from the $18.1 billion received during the same period in FY24. These funds continue to play a critical role in bolstering Pakistan’s economy, helping to improve the external account balance and providing vital financial support to remittance-dependent families.

Saudi Arabia remained the top source of remittances, with expatriates sending $744.4 million in February, marking a 2.21 per cent month-on-month increase and a 37.88 per cent rise compared to the $539.9 million sent in February 2024.

From the United Arab Emirates (UAE), inflows reached $652.2 million in February, up 4.94 per cent from the $621.5 million sent in January. Year-on-year, this figure soared by 69.49 per cent compared to $384.8 million in the same month last year.

Remittances from the United Kingdom also saw a significant increase, climbing to $501.8 million in February—13.12 per cent higher than January’s $443.6 million. This represented a 45.03 per cent increase from February 2024.

Meanwhile, Pakistani expatriates in the United States contributed $309.4 million in February, up 3.41 per cent from the previous month.
