Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest player to be signed for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for almost PKR 4 crore after a bidding war last year.

Rajasthan coach Rahul Dravid was impressed by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s trial in the net session prior to the auction and later said Suryavanshi has got “some really good skills”.

During the IPL match against the Lucknow Super Giants, he hit a six on the very first ball. The teenager was eventually out stumped off South Africa’s Aiden Markram in the ninth over.

The youngster hit two fours and three sixes in his 20-ball knock. Rajasthan Royals team lost the match.

About Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi comes from India’s poorest state, Bihar, and his father is a farmer and part-time journalist, according to reports.

At the age of 9, Vaibhav’s father enrolled him in a cricket academy in the nearby town of Samastipur.

At 12 years and 284 days, he became the youngest Indian to make a first-class debut since 1986 and the second-youngest to ever feature in a Ranji Trophy game for Bihar.

Suryavanshi was also part of India’s Under-19 Asia Cup squad last year. There he scored 176 runs at an average of 44.

Previous record of the youngest player

He made headlines last October when he, also aged 13, scored a 58-ball century for India Under-19s in a Youth Test against Australia Under-19s in Chennai.

In 2019, Prayas Ray Barman became the youngest IPL’s player at the age of 16.

He was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
