KARACHI: The Sindh Government will officially take charge of the Green and Orange line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operations starting March 10.
During a recent meeting, led by Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Board approved the takeover. Officials discussed sending the required documents to the law department for further evaluation and legal approval.
To ensure smooth operations and transition, the current staff managing the Green and Orange Line will remain in place for three more months.
Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasised that the Sindh Government is committed to providing better and more modern public transport. He believes that transferring control of the Orange and Green line BRT would improve Karachi’s BRT system, adding that the government is working on further expanding and upgrading the BRT network.
“We are introducing more reforms in the transport sector to provide fast, comfortable, and efficient commuting options for the people,” he said.
The minister further assured people that the Sindh Government would utilise all necessary resources to strengthen the BRT system for long-term sustainability.
Karachi’s Green Line BRT was launched in January 2022 and since then it has become an essential part of the city’s transport, catering to thousands of commuters daily.
