WEBDESK: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) politician and MNA Sharmila Faruqui did not hold back during her recent appearance on ARY’s Har Lamha Purjosh with Waseem Badami. In a bold move, she called out famous screenwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar for his misogynistic views and urged the public and producers to completely boycott his dramas.

As part of a game segment, when Qamar’s name was brought up, Sharmila Faruqui immediately responded, “Uff, I don’t like him. I don’t want to talk about him. He’s such a misogynist.” She doubled down on her comments when Badami asked her to elaborate, adding, “Nobody should even watch his dramas. Producers should stop making them.”

Sharmila Faruqui strongly criticised Qamar’s history of making offensive and below-the-belt remarks about women. She highlighted his past feuds with actors like Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar, as well as his controversial stance on the ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’ campaign. According to Sharmila Faruqui, his attitude does not belong in the entertainment industry and should not be normalised.

Interestingly, the full episode uploaded to YouTube had Qamar’s name censored, while a shorter clip kept it intact.

Sharmila Faruqui also didn’t shy away from commenting on actor Danish Taimoor and his controversial remarks about polygamy during a Ramazan transmission. “It was so disgusting,” she said, referring to Taimoor’s claim that he was “doing his wife a favor” by choosing not to marry again despite being religiously allowed to do so. Faruqui praised his wife, Ayeza Khan, for remaining graceful despite being subjected to such comments on live television.

“Wives in our society already endure so much,” Sharmila Faruqui added. “Being a star comes with responsibility. People listen to you, you should be setting better examples.”

The MNA also briefly mentioned television host Nadia Khan, refusing to comment on her, saying that Nadia Khan was not worth it.
