WEBDESK: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) have started a strict crackdown on speeding, following orders from IGP Riffat Mukhtar Raja. Drivers who go over the motorway speed limit will face heavy fines, and in serious cases, an FIR (police report) will be registered against them.

Motorway Police have said that any vehicle going over 150 km/h will be stopped immediately. The driver will be fined, and legal action may be taken. The motorway speed limit for cars on three-lane motorways is 120 km/h, while public transport vehicles must stay below 110 km/h.

Authorities are also working on better speed monitoring to prevent accidents. They are focusing on safety measures, like proper barriers, to make roads safer for everyone.

In 2023, fines for traffic violations, including breaking the motorway speed limit, were increased. The fine for overspeeding went up from Rs750 to Rs2500. Illegal overtaking now costs Rs1500 instead of Rs300. Driving without a license carries a Rs5000 fine, up from Rs750. Not giving way to emergency vehicles like ambulances now results in a Rs1000 fine, while reckless driving penalties have risen from Rs300 to Rs1500.

Additionally, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has introduced a new toll tax for vehicles without an M-Tag or with insufficient balance. From February 1, such vehicles will have to pay 25% extra in toll fees.

By enforcing the motorway speed limit and increasing fines, authorities aim to make roads safer and reduce accidents.
