WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), on Sunday, said that the Karachi heatwave will last until April 23 (Wednesday). The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that the temperature in Karachi could reach up to 41°C in the coming days which is 4-6°C above normal.
“Due to heatwave conditions in Karachi, the general public especially children, women and senior citizens are advised to take precautionary measures,” according to the Met department’s advisory issued today.
The advisory noted that hot/very hot and dry weather is likely to prevail over most parts of the province.
Sunday saw a maximum temperature of 39-41°C and a minimum of 25°C, with north/northwesterly winds becoming west/southwesterly winds.
The Karachi heatwave is not only making the weather uncomfortable but also posing health risks for many people. Doctors are advising residents to stay indoors, drink lots of water, and avoid going out during the hottest parts of the day. Children, elderly citizens, and people with health issues are especially at risk.
The Karachi heatwave is part of a larger heat pattern affecting other cities in Sindh as well. Some areas in the province have reported extreme temperatures as high as 49°C. The harsh weather has taken a toll on people’s health as well with cases of heatstroke and gastroenteritis on the rise. Hospitals have seen more cases of heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses. At the same time, long power cuts are making the situation even worse for many residents.
