KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for an intense Karachi heatwave this week, as temperatures are expected to soar and strong winds are likely during the daytime.
The weather is set to get even hotter from Sunday, as the Karachi heatwave is expected to intensify. The temperature could rise above 40 degrees Celsius, making it difficult for people to stay outdoors, especially during peak hours from noon to late afternoon.
Humidity is also playing a major role in increasing the discomfort. As per the Met Department, morning humidity levels are at 80%, which drop to about 55% by evening. This high humidity combined with rising temperatures makes the weather feel even hotter than it actually is.
The Met Office explained that a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere has been in place since April 13, causing heatwave conditions in many parts of the country. Cities in Sindh like Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Larkana, and Dadu are already seeing very hot temperatures since sunrise.
Southern parts of the country, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, are experiencing a severe Karachi heatwave, with daytime temperatures expected to be 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal. In some places, the temperature could rise as high as 46 to 48 degrees Celsius.
Nights will also remain warmer than usual, adding to the discomfort for residents. The weather department has warned that excessive heating may cause dust storms or windstorms in some areas.
Authorities are urging the public to stay indoors during the hottest hours of the day, drink plenty of water, and avoid unnecessary sun exposure. The Karachi heatwave
