WEBDESK: Another round of anti-Trump protests took place across major cities in the United States on April 19, as thousands of people took to the streets to show their opposition to former President Donald Trump’s return to the political spotlight.

The demonstrations were part of the 50501 movement, a growing grassroots campaign which is aimed at resisting what protestors describe as a threat to democracy, civil rights, and constitutional values.

The anti-Trump protests occurred in Washington D.C., New York, and other major cities, coinciding with the anniversary of the American Revolutionary War – drawing attention to the importance of freedom and democracy.

In New York, people gathered outside the city’s main library carrying signs targeting the US president with slogans like “No Kings in America” and “Resist Tyranny”.

Many took aim at Trump’s deportations of undocumented migrants, chanting “No ICE, no fear, immigrants are welcome here” – a reference to the role of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) in rounding up migrants.

In Washington, protesters voiced concern that Trump was threatening long-respected constitutional norms, including the right to due process.

One of the key concerns raised during the anti-Trump protests was the belief that Trump’s influence could weaken democratic norms, including fair immigration practices, transgender rights, and social security benefits. Protesters argued that these changes could harm vulnerable communities.

In Washington, D.C., people marched toward the White House, where they accused the Trump administration of attacking the U.S. Constitution and civil liberties. “This isn’t just about one man – it’s about the future of democracy in our country,” said one protestor.
