WEBDESK: Hollywood superstar Jason Momoa is officially joining the cast of the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie, bringing fresh excitement to the popular video game’s big-screen reboot. The film is already generating buzz, especially with WWE star Roman Reigns also on board.
Launched in 1987, Street Fighter is a series of fighting games revolving around intense one-on-one battles between a diverse cast of martial artists. The games often center around a global fighting tournament organised by M. Bison, the leader of the evil organisation Shadaloo. Street Fighter has sold over 55 million units worldwide since launch, making it one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time.
The announcement was confirmed by production sources, revealing that Jason Momoa will play a key character known for strength and power, aligning perfectly with his well-known tough-guy roles in Aquaman and Dune. Momoa has previously shared that his favourite characters in the game were Ryu and Blanka, leading many to think he might play Blanka.
Roman Reigns, the popular WWE star, will also join the Street Fighter cast. Known for his powerful moves in the ring, Reigns is likely to play one of the game’s strong and fierce fighters.
The movie will be directed by Kitao Sakurai, known for his unique style and strong visuals. According to reports, filming is expected to begin by the end of 2025 or early 2026, following earlier production delays. The cast also includes Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji, rumoured to be playing Ken and Ryu, respectively.
Just like the Narnia reboot, this movie aims to bring a fresh and exciting take to a classic franchise. Fans of Narnia reboot and video games alike are hopeful for a strong new version of Street Fighter.
This new version of Street Fighter is part of a recent trend of video game adaptations hitting Hollywood, with studios hoping to repeat the success of films like Sonic the Hedgehog and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
