Amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Indian social media accounts have been continuously running fake news and propaganda against Pakistan.

CLAIM

Recently, Indian-affiliated social media accounts have been sharing screenshots of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocking YouTube in Pakistan.

The presser stated, “PTA has directed all concerned operators to shut down website www.youtube.com in view of growing sacrilegious contents on it. It may be mentioned that PTA after all possible avenues were used within its jurisdiction, including using regular channels available on the FACEBOOK and YOUTUBE to launch protest, to avoid appearances of derogatory material available on their websites.”

It added, “It was not only in line with the Constitution of Pakistan, the wishes of the people of Pakistan but also an extension of the court orders passed by the honorable High Court of Pakistan and directions of the Government of Pakistan. PTA has already announced a phone number and a complaint number to receive complaints on the issue.”

FACT

The claim being shared by Indian social media accounts is fake news because this notification was issued in 2011 when the High Court ordered the PTA to block YouTube over blasphemous content.

PTA has not banned YouTube in Pakistan in 2025; however, the Indian government has banned multiple Pakistani sports, entertainment, and news channels’ social media platforms for its citizens.

India has blocked the official YouTube channels of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

It merits a mention that ISPR has released detailed videos unearthing the Indian government’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack, which gained large traction from the Indian audience.
