Tesla has started hiring in India, following a meeting between US President Donald Trump’s adviser Elon Musk and India’s prime minister Modi.
Tesla’s website lists more than a dozen job openings for both the capital New Delhi and the economic hub Mumbai, including positions for a store manager and service technicians.
On Monday, the job postings were made available on LinkedIn, an employment website. Tesla’s India drive follows Musk’s one-on-one encounter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, which raised questions about his official or corporate role.
Elon Musk has been looking for business prospects in the world’s most populated country, with media reports last year indicating he was looking for factory and showroom locations.
Musk has also attempted to launch his satellite internet provider Starlink in India, with communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announcing in November that the company would be permitted to operate if it followed “security” laws.
Musk was supposed to visit India in 2024 to announce huge investment plans, but he later postponed the trip due to what he described as “very heavy Tesla obligations”.
Tesla has struggled to gain traction in India due to high import duties on electric vehicles, which Musk has criticised as being among the “highest in the world” due to the lack of local production.
