More than 47,000 police personnel will be deployed across Punjab during the Eidul Fitr holidays to maintain security, provincial authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Eidul Fitr, the festival that marks the end of Ramadan, is anticipated to be observed on Monday, depending on the moon sighting. The holiday is usually celebrated over three days with large public gatherings. Although incidents during Eid are uncommon, Pakistan has seen a recent uptick in militant violence, particularly in its western regions near the Afghan border.

Punjab Police announced that over 47,000 officers would be stationed at more than 29,000 Eid prayer gatherings across the province. Key areas, including mosques, imambargahs, markets, and other significant locations, will be monitored via CCTV cameras to ensure public safety.

Additionally, around 21,000 officers, including female personnel, will be deployed in markets and other crowded areas on the eve of Eid. Senior police officials in each region and district will oversee the security measures, with authorities promising strict action against those causing disturbances. The police have warned that offences such as one-wheeling, aerial firing, hooliganism, and kite flying are strictly prohibited.

In Islamabad, over 3,500 officers will be assigned to secure the capital during the celebrations, alongside 500 traffic officers who will be tasked with managing the city’s traffic flow.
