LOS ANGELES: 90’s heartthrob and renowned actor, Val Kilmer, who played fan favorite Iceman in “Top Gun” and played as the iconic Batman in “Batman Forever” has passed away at the age of 65.
Val Kilmer passed away peacefully in Los Angeles while being surrounded by his family and friends on April 2.
It should be highlighted that Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer and he recovered from it in 2014 after undergoing two tracheotomies. He died from pneumonia.
Who was Val Kilmer?
A brilliant mind, Kilmer was accepted to the prestigious Julliard School at the age of 17 as he was the youngest actor ever to enroll at the institution.
Kilmer’s career trajectory was not any less dramatic as it faced many ebbs and flows. His first break in career occurred in his role in 1984’s spy spoof “Top Secret!” followed by the comedy “Real Genius” in 1985.
However, his movie career hit its peak during the early 1990’s as he became a Hollywood heartthrob following his role in 1993’s “Tombstone”. He starred alongside Kurt Russell and Bill Paxton in the movie.
Furthermore, his high-tide continued with movies like “True Romance” and 1995’s “Heat” where he starred with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
Many Hollywood actors have paid tributes to the legend’s passing away, including Josh Brolin, who wrote in an Instagram post: “You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those.”
Kilmer’s dedication to his profession and art could be gauged by the fact that when he played Doc Holliday in “Tombstone,” he filled his bed with ice for the final scene to mimic the feeling of dying from tuberculosis.
Kilmer’s most iconic roles included hotshot pilot Tom “Iceman” Kazansky opposite Tom Cruise in 1986’s “Top Gun” and playing the Batman in 1995’s “Batman Forever” alongside Nicole Kidman.
