WEBDESK: Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sharmila Faruqui has criticised actor Danish Taimoor for his recent remarks about multiple marriages in Islam. She believes his statement makes marriage seem like a power game rather than a relationship based on respect and loyalty.

Danish Taimoor and his wife, actress Ayeza Khan, recently appeared on the Ramzan show Mehfil-e-Ramzan. During the episode, Danish Taimoor, without being asked, shared his thoughts on polygamy in Islam. He said that he is allowed to have four marriages but has chosen not to.

“Allah Has given me this permission and nobody can take this away from me. But it is my love and respect for her [Ayeza Khan] that I am spending my life with her only, for now.”he added.

His comments quickly sparked backlash, and he has since apologized. In a video statement, Danish Taimoor, stated: “I know that some of you may be upset with me because some people thing that I disrespected my wife. This is false and I had no such intention. I love her [Ayeza Khan] so much.”

Sharmila Faruqui addressed the issue in an Instagram post, calling his remarks “arrogant” and an example of how some men misuse religion to maintain control.

“Danish Taimoor’s remark—that he is ‘allowed’ four marriages in Islam but is ‘doing a favor’ to Ayeza Khan by not marrying again—is not just arrogant, it’s a clear example of how men twist religious teachings for their own benefit,” she wrote.

She further explained that Islam does not give men unlimited freedom to marry multiple times. Instead, polygamy is only allowed under strict conditions of justice, which most men fail to meet.
