WEBDESK: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that while Pakistan is concerned about the US tariffs imposed during the Trump administration, it does not plan to take any retaliatory action.

In an interview with an international media outlet, Aurangzeb explained that the US tariffs have created uncertainty for countries like Pakistan. He said, “We are worried about the impact, but we believe in finding solutions through dialogue, not confrontation.”

The minister added that although the US tariffs are a problem, especially for exports, Pakistan is not considering any response in return. “If you’re asking whether we’re going to take action in reply, the answer is no,” Aurangzeb stated.

He also spoke about the ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China, saying both countries are important partners for Pakistan. “The US has been a long-term strategic partner, but our ties with China are equally vital,” he noted.

Last week, the United States announced new tariffs on many countries, including a proposed 29% tariff on Pakistani goods. However, the US has since postponed these new US tariffs for 90 days, offering some relief to global exporters.

Despite the temporary pause, Pakistan and other countries will still face a minimum 10% US tariff on goods entering the American market.

To deal with the situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will send a high-level delegation to Washington to discuss trade and US tariff issues directly with American officials.

The Finance Minister emphasized that Pakistan aims to manage the situation through talks and cooperation, not conflict.
