WEBDESK: Pakistan’s tennis team has made history by winning the bronze medal at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Masters 45+ World Championship in Turkey. The tournament, held in Manavgat, featured 21 nations competing for the prestigious title.
This was the first time the Pakistan tennis team participated in this global event, and they delivered an impressive performance. They dominated the group stage, securing 3-0 victories against Romania and Turkey. Their success continued in the quarterfinals, where they defeated the Czech Republic 2-1.
In the semifinals, Pakistan faced a tough challenge against France. Aqeel Khan secured a crucial singles victory, but the team lost the deciding doubles match, resulting in a 2-1 defeat. Despite this setback, the Pakistan tennis team bounced back in the third-place match against Germany. After Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi retired from his singles match, Aqeel Khan won his singles round to level the score. The pair then claimed victory in the doubles match, securing the bronze medal.
This achievement is another milestone for Pakistan’s growing presence in international tennis. Recently, Talha Waheed set a world record for the most tennis serves in a minute, while the country’s wheelchair tennis team also won a bronze medal in the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Asian qualifiers. Additionally, the junior Pakistan tennis team emerged victorious in the Davis Cup Juniors 2025 tournament.
Following their team success, Pakistani players will now compete in the individual events of the ITF Masters Championship. Their outstanding performance highlights the nation’s potential in global tennis and brings pride to sports fans across the country.
