The judge in Dera Ismail Khan has ordered the exhumation of a man’s body after he allegedly committed suicide because of his 11-year-old daughter’s forced marriage.
The court ordered that a postmortem must be done to determine the actual cause of death, according to reports.
According to details, an incident of a girl being sacrificed as ‘Vani’ came to light in Bagwani North village of Paharpur tehsil, Dera Ismail Khan. The girl’s father, Adil, grief-stricken, committed suicide in a state of helplessness after his daughter’s forced marriage.
Vani is a common practice in which a girl is given as compensation to the other family to resolve an issue.
Reportedly, before committing suicide, the father released an audio message in which he named the accused and said he was sacrificing himself for his daughters.
What happened?
According to the police, a few days ago, at a wedding, the daughter of accused Farid was seen talking to Adil’s nephew, upon which Farid called Adil to the local panchayat, making it an issue of honour.
The panchayat fined Adil Hijam’s nephew Rs7 lakh for talking to Farid’s daughter. Despite receiving the fine, a few days later, Farid again raised the issue and demanded “respect in return for respect.”
The panchayat then forcibly declared Adil’s 11-year-old daughter a bride and married her to Farid’s son. The girl’s father was forced to sign a stamp paper, which he couldn’t handle.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has also taken action of this incident.
