Asad Qasim has been elected as an independent senator from Balochistan on a general seat after his father, Qasim Roonjho, had previously resigned as a Senator following his vote for the controversial 26th Constitutional Amendment last year.
Last year, senator Muhammad Qasim Roonjho who was a member of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) resigned from his seat after voting in favour of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
BNP-M chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal had instructed Roonjho to resign citing his violation of the party policy.
Qasim Roonjho’s son, Asas Qasim, has now been elected as the senator from Balochistan in an independent capacity after his father left a vacant seat in the Senate of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, today’s Senate session witnessed chaos as leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) walked out of the house demanding production orders of PTI senator Aon Abbas Buppi.
Earlier, PTI leaders took to social media to allege that Buppi was taken away from his home forcefully by unknown men.
PTI leader Shibli Faraz stated: “The most important business is that a member of this House has been taken away, Senator Aun Abbas Pabbi has been taken away from his house, we strongly condemn this.”
“The ongoing fascism in the country has further increased, the Chairman Senate Office was not even informed, if so, it is an insult to this House.”
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, revealed: “Everyone should be arrested according to the law and procedure, when contacted, Multan police were unaware, however, Bahawalpur police confirmed the arrest. He was arrested under illegal hunting at PS Drawar police station in Bahawalpur.”
Tarar further clarified that he has ordered the authorities to produce the FIR filed against Buppi for illegal wildlife hunting in Cholistan.
Shibli Faraz, however, dismissed Tarar’s clarification, saying: “The issue of illegal hunting is a big joke. Senator Aun Abbas was picked up from outside his house, his house was vandalized.”
