Pakistan is quickly emerging as a major player in the global tech industry, driven by a surge in IT exports, innovative policies, and a growing digital workforce. The government is committed to fostering a more connected, secure, and tech-forward future.

The Ministry of IT and Telecom is focused on turning Pakistan into a top digital economy by promoting innovation, expanding internet access, and ensuring that telecom services reach everyone.

According to official reports, these efforts are building a strong digital environment, positioning Pakistan as a rising tech hub. In the past year, the IT and telecom sector has made significant progress, largely due to government initiatives pushing digitalisation.

Some of the standout achievements include record IT exports of $3.223 billion in the financial year 2023-24, marking a 24 per cent rise. Broadband access also grew by 5 per cent, benefiting over 139 million users. Policies encouraging the use of AI, cloud computing, and digital entrepreneurship have empowered startups and freelancers.

The Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP) is helping to build digital infrastructure, boost IT exports, and improve digital skills. Pakistan is now ranked in Tier 1 of the Global Cybersecurity Index and has also improved its standing in the UN E-Government Development Index.

The adoption of e-office systems has reduced decision-making time by 70 per cent, leading to smoother governance. Public services have also improved with the introduction of apps like the Hajj App and the One Patient One ID system.

Under the DigiSkills.pk initiative, more than 600,000 people have been trained in essential digital skills. Over 166 startups have been launched, creating over 5,000 jobs and attracting Rs260 million in investments.

Pakistan is preparing for the rollout of 5G technology, with a spectrum auction scheduled, and the National Fiberisation Policy in place. Broadband expansion has already benefited 4.1 million people. Regulatory reforms, along with the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E and the National Space Policy, are setting the stage for next-gen connectivity.

Several key policies have been introduced to strengthen the country’s digital landscape. Provinces like Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have adopted the Cloud First Policy, and National AI and Semiconductor policies have been finalised to accelerate Pakistan’s entrance into advanced technology sectors.
