WEBDESK: Tesla has issued another recall for its Tesla Cybertruck, affecting over 46,000 units due to a safety issue with the trim panel along the windshield. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed that the stainless steel “cant rail assembly” may detach while driving, posing a potential hazard to other vehicles on the road.

The Tesla Cybertruck has faced multiple recalls since its launch in late 2023. This latest recall is due to incorrect adhesive used in the windshield trim, which can cause it to come loose while the vehicle is in motion. Most Cybertrucks built between November 2023 and February 2025 are affected.

The issue lies in a stainless steel strip known as the “cant rail assembly,” which runs along the left and right side of the windshield. It is bonded to the vehicle using structural adhesive.

However, regulators have found that the glue can degrade under extreme hot or cold weather conditions, potentially causing the panel to break loose.

“That’s causing the problem now, where a panel can literally leave the vehicle and fly off while you’re driving,” said Paul Maric, founder of the automotive website CarExpert. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has warned that the adhesive used in the cant rail is vulnerable to “environmental embrittlement.” Tesla plans to replace the panels free of charge using a better adhesive and provide additional reinforcements to address the issue.

Tesla will notify owners by May 19, 2025, and will fix the issue for free at its service centers.

Not the First Recall

This is the Tesla Cybertruck’s eighth recall since its release, adding to concerns about its durability and build quality. Previous recalls involved issues like faulty accelerator pedals and software malfunctions. Many customers have expressed frustration over the repeated problems.

The recall comes at a time when Tesla is facing increased scrutiny. CEO Elon Musk has received backlash over his political alignment with former U.S. President Donald Trump, leading to protests and even vandalism at Tesla facilities.

In addition, Tesla’s stock has dropped by 42% in 2025, reflecting the company’s ongoing challenges. Despite the issues, Tesla remains committed to addressing safety concerns and ensuring that the Tesla Cybertruck meets quality standards.

For Cybertruck owners, the best course of action is to wait for Tesla’s official notification and schedule a repair as soon as possible. As recalls continue to pile up, the future of the Tesla Cybertruck remains uncertain.
