Pakistani citizen Seema Haider, who left her country to live with her Indian lover Sachin Meena, may face deportation as India has revoked all visas for Pakistanis living in the country.
Amid this threat, she has requested the Indian government to let her stay.
“I was Pakistan’s daughter, but now I’m India’s daughter-in-law,” she said.
According to her lawyers, she is eligible to stay in India. However, with reports emerging that even Pakistanis who have lived in India for decades are being forced to return, Seema’s future remains uncertain.
Seema Haider had left Karachi in 2023 and entered India. Later, Indian authorities caught her but allowed her to stay because of her marriage to an Indian man.
Currently, the couple lives in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The Ministry of External Affairs has announced that all valid visas issued to Pakistani nationals will be cancelled effective April 27, except for medical visas, which will remain valid only until April 29.
The country also announced other measures, including cutting the number of diplomatic staff and closing the only functional land border crossing between the countries.
In another development, two Pakistani girls who married Indian boys after waiting over a year for visas earlier this month may now be sent back.
