WEBDESK (Azaad English): The Real Madrid vs Man City match in the Champions League on Thursday, at the Santiago Bernabeu, ended with a 3-1 win for Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe was the star for Real Madrid as his superb hat-trick inspired Real Madrid to a 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League knockout game, knocking City out of the competition and securing a 6-3 aggregate win.
Pep Guardiola’s side had been leading the game heading into the 86th minute of the first leg before conceding two quick goals.
After the game, Guardiola said, “We accept it. The best team won, so congratulations Real Madrid and now we focus on the Premier League.”
City’s travelling away fans started cheering their team ironically, as their team once feared across Europe, was defeated with ease.
Mbappe started the Real Madrid vs Man City game off brightly, lobbing Manchester City’s Ederson to open the scoring inside 4 minutes.
He added a second just before halftime, as he sat down Gvardiol and scored with a neat finish. Mbappe scored his third in the 61st minute of the game to round off Real Madrid’s rout.
Despite key injuries to crucial players, Erling Haaland and John Stones, during the Real Madrid vs Man City game, the team was expected to fight back. However, that never happened as their only goal of the game came in the 90th minute courtesy of Nico Gonzalez finishing a Omar Marmoush freekick rebound.
Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, who were instrumental to City’s success in recent times, did not have much impact on the game. Neither did the younger replacements as Real Madrid piled on the pressure.
For Real Madrid, they will either face Atletico Madrid or German champions, Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16.
In the other matches, PSV defeated Juventus to go through to the next round and Borussia Dortmund played out a 0-0 draw against Sporting Lisbon to book their place in the next round of the competition. PSG vs Brest ended in a 7-0 demolition as PSG progressed to the round of 16 to round off the draw.
The draw will take place on February 21st.
