Punjab schools will begin summer holidays from June 1, 2025 (Thursday), the Punjab Education Department announced on Saturday, citing the extreme heatwave across the province.
All cities of Punjab , including Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi, are experiencing severe weather conditions.
According to Secretary School Education Khalid Nazir Wattoo, if the heatwave worsens, the department may announce holidays even before June 1.
However, it is still unclear how long the summer holidays in Punjab schools will be. The exact duration will be known after a notification is issued.
The early holidays are a sigh of relief for parents who were concerned about the health of their school-going children amid the extreme weather conditions.
Punjab usually faces intense heat from mid-May to mid-August, however, climate change is making it worse every year. The decision to announce holidays is being widely appreciated by parents.
Last year, in 2024, the Punjab government announced summer holidays from May 22 to August 14. This year, the exact dates will be known once they are officially notified.

Amna, a mother in Lahore of a 10-year-old girl, told Azaad English that she was very worried about her daughter’s health. Last year, her daughter fell sick due to the heat, and she had planned to ask the school for leave if the government had not announced the holidays. However, she is happy that the government has announced the holdiays.
