Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday decided to not participate in today’s crucial in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) amid deteriorating security situation.

The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) while addressing a press conference at the KP House in Islamabad today noted that they would not attend the meeting in the absence of founder PTI Imran Khan who is imprisoned.

The crucial national moot comes following significant rise in terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier this month, both provinces witnessed a sharp rise in terrorist attacks with Balochistan suffering the Jaffar Express hijacking, resulting in the loss of 31 lives.

Terrorists belonging to Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed the responsibility of making more than 400 passengers hostage.

Just a few days after Jaffar Express incident, a suicide blast targeting Frontier Corps (FC) convoy left at least seven martyred in Noshki, Balochistan.

The national security meeting is being attended by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Asim Malik, chief ministers of all four provinces, and other top officials.

Furthermore, Global Terrorism Index 2025 sounded alarms across the country when it placed Pakistan as the second most affected country by terrorism.

According to the statistics, Pakistan witnessed an alarming 45 percent increase in terrorism related deaths with the total rising from 748 in 2023 to 1,081 in 2024.

PTI’s decision to skip the national meeting comes after the party leaders wanted the government arrange a meeting between its leaders and Imran Khan.

Advisor to the Prime Minister, Rana Sanaullah, has stated that the civil-military leadership would meet to discuss strategies to prevent Afghanistan from using its soil against Pakistan.
