WEBDESK: Pakistan marks the 12th year since the passing of Air Commodore Muhammad Mahmood Alam (MM Alam), who fought as a legendary war hero during the 1965 Indo-Pak conflict.
During a flight in an F-86 Sabre aircraft MM Alam established history by using his F-86 Sabre to down five Indian Air Force jets within less than a single minute. The nine enemy aircraft destructions he accomplished became an everlasting aviation record. The Sitara-e-Jurat award was presented to him due to his courageous actions.
On July 6, 1935, Muhammad Mahmood Alam was born in the British colonial city of Calcutta before his family moved to East Pakistan which later became Bangladesh after the partition of India.
MM Alam entered the Royal Pakistan Air Force service in 1952 before receiving his commission during 1953. His family moved to West Pakistan during 1971 after the separation of East Pakistan occurred.
After serving 30 years within Pakistan Air Force he retired as an Air Commodore before making his permanent residence in Karachi.
MM Alam lost his life to a long illness during March 2013 when he reached 78 years old. The nation remembers his exceptional work and brave achievements from defending Pakistan at this present time.
