Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during an address in Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan) on Saturday challenged the audience to change his name if Pakistan doesn’t leave India behind in development.
“We need to be patient and work hard. I promise you this that we will work hard day and night and my name isn’t Shehbaz Sharif if the day doesn’t come when we leave India behind,” exclaimed the premier while beating the podium in his signature style.
The Prime Minister also announced the construction of a cancer hospital in DG Khan and a university in Rajanpur.
Shehbaz Sharif further addressed the audience: “I did not take off my coat due to heat but in your respect. My heart has become jubilant watching all you people.”
Then the Prime Minister suddenly addressed the public in their native language, Siraiki, saying: “Tell me this, you people know me for the last 20-25 years. Am I speaking the truth or not? I remember very well that this was not a favour done to you but I just want to recall what we did, we built Daanish schools, free medicine, laptops and a conditional cash transfer programme for the whole region’s children.”
The PM further remarked that him and Nawaz Sharif had always kept a higher quota for South Punjab in any development program.
“I have come to convey that Nawaz and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz are working day and night to uplift the entire province, particularly south Punjab,” he added.
He also stated: “The people of south Punjab, I haven’t given anything to you but given your love for Nawaz Sharif, me and the party I promise by God that even if I work throughout my life I cannot repay that favour.”
