Pakistan continued their unbeaten streak in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier, clinching an emphatic 87-run win over Thailand on Thursday to book their spot in the upcoming global event.
Opting to bat first, captain Fatima Sana’s decision proved effective as the hosts posted a competitive 205/6 in their 50 overs.
Top-order batter Sidra Amin led the scoring with a composed 80 off 105 balls, hitting nine boundaries. Captain Sana provided valuable support with an unbeaten 62 from 59 deliveries, which included six fours and a six. The duo came together at a tricky 85/4 to build a crucial 97-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
For Thailand, Thipatcha Putthawong was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Onnicha Kamchomphu and Nattaya Boochatham took one each.
In response, Thailand’s batting line-up faltered under pressure, folding for just 118 in 34.4 overs. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scored with 19 runs, with contributions from Boochatham (16), Khiaoto (15), Chantham (13), Chaiwai (12) and Putthawong (10).
Pakistan’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance, with Fatima Sana, Rameen Shamim and Nashra Sandhu each claiming three wickets. Sadia Iqbal also chipped in with one.
The victory not only sealed Pakistan’s World Cup qualification with a game to spare but also propelled them to the top of the Qualifier standings, overtaking Bangladesh, who lost narrowly to West Indies earlier in the day.
Pakistan will now face Bangladesh in their final group match.
