Edhi about Indian prisoners

Faisal Edhi advised India and Pakistan to take a more humanitarian approach towards fishermen who find themselves in the unfortunate position of crossing maritime boundaries by accident. While he was speaking, he brought attention to the anguish that their families endured as a result of their extended detention and emphasised the importance of expeditious repatriation following the completion of their sentences.

Following the completion of their sentences, the Indian prisoners were granted their freedom. Every single one of them was arrested because they had accidentally crossed into Pakistani waters.

Because the sea borders aren’t clearly marked, fishermen from both countries are often get arrested and end up in jails.

It’s important to note that the event happened the day before the match between India and Pakistan, which is set to happen today at 2:00pm in Dubai.

Earlier this year, the Government of Pakistan handed over a list of 266 Indian prisoners in Pakistan (49 civilian prisoners and 217 fishermen) to a representative of the High Commission of India in Islamabad.

Simultaneously, the Government of India shared the list of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails to an officer of Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi. According to the list, there are a total of 462 Pakistanis in Indian jails (381 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen).
