Multan Sultans are coming into PSL 2025, looking to go one step further this year by clinching the trophy. They were the unlucky runner-ups when Islamabad United won their third PSL title last year. Let’s take a look at the Sultans squad for PSL 2025 to assess how they are shaping up for this year’s challenge.

Rizwan, despite being under severe scrutiny vis a vis his performances in the international arena, continues to receive confidence from Multan Sultans management and it makes sense too. Sultans have historically counted on Rizwan to anchor the ship for them and he has done that quite well, as evident by his performances in the past PSL seasons. His opening partner Usman Khan, who has also been a failure so far at the international stage, boasts a very impressive record in the PSL and has been a prolific run getter for Sultans in recent years.

Iftikhar Ahmed has been out of favor as far as selection for the national team is concerned, but Sultans continue to pose confidence in him primarily due to his ability to hit the long ball.

As far as overseas picks are concerned, Michael Bracewell and Johnson Charles will be seen playing the role of aggressors. Shai Hope, in contrast will be assigned the role to keep things steady.

Sultans’ bowling attack will be led by T20 specialists David Willey and Chris Jordan. Those two know how to swing it and hit the deck hard. Josh Little will try to hurry the batsmen with his pace while Usama Mir will be looking to trouble the batsmen with his leg-spin & googly. Add in Mohammad Hasnain’s raw pace and Kamran Ghulam’s handy spin and you get a very decent attack.

But, it’s not all rosy. The pace attack relies heavily on Willey and Jordan. Both of them have a wealth of experience in T20 leagues across the globe, but they have lately been getting carted around as well. They have not been flawless as death bowlers and this is something that the opposing teams will look to exploit.

Spin-wise, Sultans have made some decent picks like Usama Mir, Michael Bracewell, Gudakesh Motie & Faisal Akram, but the element of mystery spin seems to be missing. Moreover, none of these names come with a reputation of being out & out match winners. All of them are more suited to play the second fiddle.

Sultans seem to have gathered a decent bunch overall, but it does not look like a side loaded with match winners. The likes of Tim David & Rilee Rossouw, batters who can run away with the game by making slogging at the death look ridiculously easy, are not a part of Sultans setup anymore. Similarly, the bowling attack is also missing the X factor. Sultans will have to play out of their skins with this squad to have any chance of winning the silverware.
