WEBDESK: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has left for Washington, D.C., to attend the annual Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, state-media Radio Pakistan reported. The meetings will take place from April 21 to 26 and will bring together global finance ministers, central bankers, and economic experts.

During his visit, Muhammad Aurangzeb is expected to hold key discussions with officials from the IMF, the World Bank, and several international credit rating agencies. His schedule also includes meetings with representatives of major global commercial and investment banks.

In addition to multilateral meetings, Muhammad Aurangzeb will engage in bilateral discussions with finance ministers from countries including China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. He is also set to meet senior officials from the U.S. State Department and Treasury to strengthen financial and diplomatic relations.

Trump’s tariffs and the turmoil in financial markets are expected to dominate the spring meetings.

A major highlight of his visit will be his participation in the 13th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, where he will represent Pakistan’s climate finance goals and challenges.

The finance minister, Mohammad Aurangzeb, may use the visit to engage with US officials over the proposed 29 per cent tariff, imposed by the Trump administration on Pakistani goods.

Following Aurangzeb’s trip, a Pakistani trade delegation is likely to visit for formal talks with US officials on the proposed tariffs.

Through these meetings, Muhammad Aurangzeb aims to secure support and foster partnerships that can help stabilize Pakistan’s economy and attract foreign investment in the coming months.
