WEBDESK: Quetta Gladiators fast bowler, Mohammad Amir, has defended his celebration after dismissing Babar Azam for the second time in the ongoing season of HBL PSL X on Sunday at Gaddafi Stadium.

Amir, who had earlier removed Babar for a duck during their first encounter this season, once again produced a moment of magic by trapping the star batter lbw with a sharp in-swinger in the third over of Zalmi’s innings.

Amir’s bold gesture towards the Gladiators’ dugout after taking Babar’s wicket quickly went viral, and set the tone for Quetta’s 64-run victory over Peshawar Zalmi. However, the seasoned pacer was quick to defend his actions, stating that such celebrations are an integral part of T20 cricket. According to Mohammad Amir, rivalries in the game – both on the field and on social media – are essential for entertaining the audience. He emphasized, “These rivalries entertain people, especially in T20 cricket, which is all about excitement and energy.”

“As a bowler, my role is to tease the batter and show aggression, while the batter aims to score runs. These things should happen, but within limits. My fans post my videos, Babar’s fans post his. It’s all great for the tournament,” said the veteran fast bowler.

Amir, who had previously dismissed Babar Azam in the same season, spoke about his strategic approach to the wicket. He explained that he had anticipated Babar would be expecting an outswinger, so he cleverly delivered an in-swinger, which led to the prized dismissal. “It’s about reading the batter’s mindset and executing the right delivery,” said Amir.

Despite his actions, Mohammad Amir recognised Babar Azam’s talent and stated that he had the utmost respect for him.

“Babar Azam is a big player, there is no doubt in that,” he acknowledged.

However, Amir believes that cricket is about intense competition, and moments like these only add to the thrilling nature of the PSL.
